A beautiful cloisonné 𝐾𝑜𝑔𝑜 [Incense Box]
Meiji period (1868-1912)
Worked in silver wire, base in silver backed enamel and decorated with red & white plum blossoms. 
Measures 7.8cm in diameter; 2.5cm high


It is thought that the two main colours of red and white symbolise birth and death, overall representing the cycle of life. 
The idea of the subject comes from the famous artist 𝑂𝑔𝑎𝑡𝑎 𝐾ō𝑟𝑖𝑛 much earlier on in history; it can often be found in Japanese art and is used in celebration up until today.
